Our Process

To ensure that new forests thrive, Bosland Growth uses the Forestry Reclamation Approach, a proven method based on scientific research and experience that was developed specifically for coal-mined land.

We are now enrolling properties in our Appalachia mine land reforestation program.

By bringing together experts from multiple industries, our program streamlines the process for landowners by providing technical assistance and navigating complicated programs and paperwork.

Our process is as follows:

Landowners receive payment for participating in the program, with project partners taking full responsibility for managing and paying the reforestation contractors.

Certified foresters and wildlife biologists create a tree prescription for your site with mix of native trees, based on the ecology and your land use goals.

Contractors remove invasive species and rip up the unhealthy and heavily compacted soils that result from the mine closure process. Professional and/or volunteer tree planters come and replant your property.

Project partners actively monitor your site for a minimum of 3 years to ensure 70% tree survival. Long term, a qualified conservation easement holder will monitor the site to ensure it remains a forest.

Carbon sequestered by newly planted trees is sold to pay for the reforestation costs. The development of a carbon program is included as part of the reforestation work.
