Carbon Credits from Reforestation
Bosland Growth Reforestation Carbon Credits Help Deliver on Net Zero Commitments
Net New
Our focus on legacy mine lands ensures additionality because we reforest areas with degraded and compacted soil and dense populations of invasive species blocking forest growth.
High Quality
Meet your Net Zero Targets through U.S.-based projects that use proven methods based in scientific research to ensure trees succeed and the new forest meets management goals.
Community Co-Benefits
We provide landowners with the opportunity to restore ecosystems, enhance land value, and unlock new economic opportunity in Appalachia, one of America’s most disadvantaged regions.
Healing Mine-Scarred Landscapes
Our Legacy Mine Land Reforestation initiative is a market-based solution to reforestation, which leverages ecosystem markets (primarily through carbon offset credit sales) and federal grant funds to finance projects. We pay landowners 100% of the cost of reforesting previously mined areas, plus a fee for each acre of land enrolled.
This results in net-new, high-quality carbon removal credits that are in great demand from corporations and other organizations seeking to meet Net Zero targets.
Our projects are based in the Appalachian United States, which has suffered economically and ecologically from the steep decline of the mining industry. In 1977, the U.S. Congress passed legislation requiring restoration of mining sites, which in turn spurred reclamation practices that prevented the natural regeneration of native forests.
We are working to bring new life to legacy mine lands, ecosystems, and communities through reforestation.
Expected Results for Carbon Buyers
2,800 acres
Initial Project Scale: 2,800 acres. Our implementation partner, Green Forests Work, has seen success in Appalachia using the Forest Reclamation Approach, following the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative methodology.
380,000 tons CO2e
Projected Carbon Outcomes: 380,000 tons CO2e over 60 years. This is equivalent to removing emissions from ~81,000 passenger vehicles per year.
70%+ survival rate
Project Developer Commitment: Bosland Growth will maintain a 70% survival rate within 3 years after tree planting and will be responsible for any necessary replanting.
Forest Permanence
Experienced Team: To ensure project success, we are partnering with ClimeCo for carbon credit registration, validation and verification; Green Forests Work for reforestation technical oversight; and qualified easement holders in each state who will ensure permanence of the new forests.
